New Equity Toolkit Helps SFMTA Improve Access By Mariana Maguire The SFMTA’s Equity Toolkit helps us improve Muni service for San Francisco’s most transit-dependent residents and essential workers. Using data layered with mapping we are able to improve access to jobs and key destinations by identifying and fixing gaps in service. Our Equity Toolkit helps us serve San Franciscans better. The toolkit focuses on San Francisco’s nine neighborhoods identified by the Muni Service Equity Strategy , including the Inner Mission, Outer Mission/Excelsior,  Visitacion  Valley, Bayview/Hunters Point, Oceanview-Ingleside, Chinatown, Tenderloin, Western Addition and Treasure Island . Show HN: 02Books – An open source web app to teach kids to read I wanted to share a project that I've been working on designed to help young kids go from reading single words to reading whole books. My husband and I started spending a lot of time teaching our 5-year-old (Alex) to read because our school district is exclusively doing remote learning and I was skeptical that he could learn to read over Zoom. We used flashcards (which Alex found boring) and then combined them into sentences (which Alex found interesting). But the sentence approach requires a lot of arranging pieces of paper and remembering which words you are working on. So I developed 02books for my family and decided to share. New Muni Route to Serve Bayview and Hunters Point Neighborhoods By Enrique Aguilar Starting in early 2021, Muni’s new  15 Bayview Hunters Point Express  line will improve Downtown access, reduce commute times and add transit capacity for residents of the Bayview and Hunters Point neighborhoods. This community-designed route connects the hilly communities east of Third Street to Downtown and was chosen by residents who voted in a fall 2020 survey. The process and the route demonstrates our commitment to working with communities to provide equitable Muni service.  Launching the new route coincides with the gradual  return of Muni Metro rail service . Returning to rail frees up enough buses to run new service, like the 15 Bayview Hunters Point Express and  new 27 Bryant route , and improve frequency on other key routes. Service on the 15 will run every 10 minutes from approximately 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. weekdays and 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on weekends.  Map of new 15 Bayview Hunter

Show HN: StreetComplete, an OpenStreetMap Editor for Humans StreetComplete is an OpenStreetMap[0] editor directed at people who want to contribute and want to do this using their smartphone, without learning how to edit things[1]. It is available as an Android application. It is intended to be used as one walks, with quests appearing as markers on the map. Selecting a marker allows one to answer a simple question. The answer will be added to the OpenStreetMap database, with app handling selecting objects for editing, transforming answer into OSM tags and making edits. OpenStreetMap account is needed to apply edits, but it is possible to start without it, make some edits and login/register later. Show HN: Owncast – The open source, self-hosted live streaming server I wanted to share the status with the Owncast project. If Wordpress is your self-hosted version of Medium, then this is your self-hosted version of Twitch. I've been little by little chipping away at building an easy to use and super useful live streaming server for individuals. It's still early days, but some recent updates include a dashboard where you can see some basic viewer metrics, configuration settings, and how your hardware is handling all that video crunching. We all know working with video can be intensive on the hardware side, so hopefully this helps people keep tabs on things. There's a demo server if you're curious what it's like. But if you're a streamer, or even have a little interest in the space, I'd love for you to give it a spin. Feedback is highly appreciated!
